Deppression

May 3rd, 2011

Deppression is a debilitating illness that still has a stigma attached to it. Many people feel uncomfortable talking about it, as though there is something to be ashamed of.

Deppression is linked to a lack of a chemical in the brain called seratonin.

How can a shortage of seratonin be something to be ashamed of? The seratonin helps to propagate electrical impulses between the different brain cells. In other words, it helps you to think straight.

Having deppression means your brain will not go where you want it to go. Your thoughts are linear, rather than branching and usually very short. It is difficult for a thought to progress to completion because the electrical connections between the brain’s neurones are not good enough.

Many people will suffer from depression at some time in their lives and it is essential to understand its causes and that it is treatable.

My own depressive episode started over Christmas, when I thought I would lose my home, but it was two months before I sought help from a doctor. The tablets have a few minor side effects, but these wear off after two months and you can feel your brain starting to work again.

Anxiety and depression are linked. I can feel my anxiety levels increase whenever I push myself to do one of the tasks I find difficult to face. Initially this was everything, even cooking dinner or tidying. I have overcome most of these fears and now most of my stress centres around writing. It will take me time to overcome depression but it will happen.

I am frustrated because I can now only do a third of the writing I used to do, but hopefully that will improve. Six weeks ago I could not string two sentences together. Now I can easily write 300 word posts and articles and yesterday I did my first 500 word article for three months.

Using Plants For Tropical Decor

April 21st, 2011

Vegetation is quite plentiful in tropical areas.  Palm trees and sea grasses are synonymous with warm, sunny beaches.  Therefore, it would be safe to assume that plant life is an important consideration in tropical decor for anyone looking to create a room with a tropical theme.  It is wise, however, to understand how to choose the right plants to create an authentic look.

One of the easiest and most common tropical house plants used in tropical decor is the fern.  Ferns are very hardy plants that do not require much care to grow and flourish.  Because many ferns can handle low light exposure, they are a great tropical plant to place anywhere in a room.  Ferns can be potted in large containers that will allow the plant to grow rather tall, taking up considerable space.  This is an excellent way to fill a lifeless corner in a tropical room.  However, if planted in a smaller container, these tropical plants are excellent tropical decor for a table top.

A popular perennial tropical plant is the cylamen.  It has marbled, heart-shaped leaves the sit close to the soil and pink butterfly-like blossoms that shoot upwards.  These flowers can be found at many greenhouses regardless of climate.  Cylamen make a great temporary addition to a room, but should be   transplanted outdoors in warm weather where it will be easier for them to re-bloom.  However, it is an excellent addition to tropical decor in cold, winter months.

A yucca plant is a tree-like plant that consists of a thick, hardy stem and narrow, spiked leaves.  A yucca can grow very tall if properly pruned.  Because it is a hardy plant, it does not require a lot of care.  Its palm-like features add interest to a room with tropical decor.

A scarlet star is a colorful addition to tropical room decor.  A part of the bromeliad family, this plant has low-lying green leaves and an interesting stalk consisting of bright reds and oranges.  It is an easy plant to grow indoors because it does not require a lot of humidity.

Plants add life to any home.  However, when creating a room of tropical decor, plants are nearly a necessity to complete the theme.  Choosing an assortment of tropical plants that are hardy for the indoors is an easy process.  Ferns, cylamen, yuccas, and bromeliads are excellent choices to consider.

Building A Garage Workshop

April 9th, 2011

Do you have a garage at your home? Do you like to do home projects or work on your car on the weekends? Then why not build a workshop in your garage where you can work on those rainy days, or just retreat to when things get too crazy in the house. By just making a few changes you can get an area that is functional and enjoyable to work in.
The first thing to consider when building a garage workshop is the type of lighting to use. Most garages today have at best a very small window in one wall that really won’t let in much light. Getting natural sunlight into a work space is one of the best things you can do when it comes to making the area nice to work in. It will also help you to see those tiny numbers on tools and tape measures. Often times I have to go outside to read a caliper if the lighting inside comes from those hideous fluorescent tubes. If you can’t get any more window space in the walls then installing a sky light or light tube is a great alternative. Light tubes are constructed of highly reflective material and they can be bent is all kinds of directions to “move “ the light where ever you want it.
The second most important part of a workshop in the garage is the work bench. I always make mine out of 4 X 12 timbers. Some people think this is over kill but the added bulk is really nice when you are driving a wheel bearing out of a hub or nailing together a wooden project for outside. Don’t forget to add a vise on the bench somewhere. I put it in one corner so it is not in the way when working but it is still close enough to use to hold the part I am working on if need be. Often times three hands are needed, and if you don’t have a buddy, you can use the vise as your third hand.
If you are planning to do a lot of wood working then you may want to consider a work table instead of a work bench. A work table allows you to walk around all sides which is great if you are painting or staining. You still want to build it sturdy because it seems like there is always some kind of pounding required with wood projects.
As you plan out your garage work shop I am sure you will come up with more additions like storage bins and a hoist, but that is the fun of building. Discovering what you want to add to make it your own special place is over half the fun.

Should You Insulate Your Garage Roof?

April 8th, 2011

Even though a garage is basically just a dry place to park your car, it has evolved into something considerably more for most people. Personally, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t also use it as a storage room for everything they can’t seem to fit inside their home – or for all things garden- and outdoor-related. This sometimes gives rise to the question of how well-built your garage should be – Should you insulate it, for instance?

Why do we insulate buildings? To preserve heat inside them – simple as that. It makes perfect sense for domestic or commercial use of a building – at least anytime that people are expected to live and work inside them during all seasons. Or, you could say, that any building that is fitted with internal heating of some sort, should be insulated. If you have a heated garage, it would become very expensive to keep it warm during the cold season, if you did not insulate it properly. So to answer the question in the title: Yes, if you are heating your garage, you should insulate the roof, the walls, and under the concrete floor too.

But then, why would you want to heat it? If all you need is a place to keep your car and a few other belongings dry, then heating is not necessary – and neither is insulation. In fact, as long as there is sufficient natural ventilation of the garage space, and water isn’t coming through the roof, or seeping up from the ground, you will have a perfectly dry environment from summer to winter. A good roofing service now and then, will often be all that is needed to keep your garage dry in this case.

But if you want to have a workshop in your garage, or let the kids play the drum-kit out there, then insulation starts to make sense. About four inches in the walls and ceilings should do fine for most casual use – but remember that you are creating a temperature difference between indoors and outdoors, which will cause some condensation of water in the room on cold days. This moisture has to be ventilated to the outside, and you should also place some kind of moisture barrier on the indoor side of the insulation, or the woodwork in the whole garage could start to develop mildew or rot. If you want this kind of work done, run your ideas past some of the local roofing services – as they might be able to do the whole garage for you, not just the roof. They will certainly know how to do it right.

Reasons to shop for a saucer chair

March 25th, 2011

Shopping for a chair is a pretty easy thing to do, right? You just visit a couple of furniture stores and see what they have. You compare prices and merchandise and pick a couple of chairs you really like. You then pick the best solution and the one you can actually afford to buy and make the purchase. You will also have to consider the shipping costs which are sometimes not included in the price tag. Maybe you will find it more cheaper to ask a friend that has a car to drive you home with your chair than to actually pay for shipping. That’s why you need to enquire about the costs of shipping before you purchase: to figure out what’s the best way to go about it in your case.

When you are set on buying a chair, you should consider a sphere chair. This is a good chair to buy and here are some reason why:

Reason number 1 to buy a sphere chair

You don’t need to do anything! What do you mean? You know those chairs and sofas that need work to actually come together? You buy them and then you need to follow some “simple” instructions to actually have something to sit on. You waste 30 minutes or an hour out of your life for something you already paid and should be ready for usage! If that sounds like something you don’t want to do then just buy a saucer chair and you won’t have to do it.

Reason number 2 to buy it

A saucer chair will usually be around for some time because it is sturdy, yet you must make sure you don’t go over the recommended weight limitations. These are usually written on the label of the chair or you can just ask about them before you buy it. Some chairs will take 300 pounds with no problem, while other are not going to last if more than 200 pounds are placed on them. You just have to find out about this before you actually buy and you will be fine.

Reason number 3 to buy it

Which is the perfect room to have this type of chair in? If you were thinking living room, then you are correct. It fits well in such a place. And because it does not really require a lot of space, you can put it anywhere in the room. But, can’t you place it in the bedroom as well? Of course you can and anywhere else for that matter.

Great Online Resources for Cheap Dining Tables and Chairs

March 22nd, 2011

Dining room furniture can be a tricky issue to tackle, and while many of us spot exactly what we like right away, price tags and space considerations usually dictate what type and style will ultimately be purchased.  Luckily, the online marketplace has given shoppers an opportunity to get great deals twenty-four hours a day, and with the ease of a few clicks of a computer mouse.  Dining room table and chairs can be compared side-by-side from a host of providers and manufacturers, making finding the best deals a snap any time.

Shopping Online

Shopping online can be one of the easiest ways to locate discounts on just about anything, including table and chairs for the kitchen or dining area, and while some may think that this route will only yield used and outdated furniture, there are some surprisingly good deals on new and name brand dining sets online.  Outlets like Overstock and Amazon have many fantastic offers from names like Better Homes and Gardens and Basset, and at prices less than $250 for a five to seven-piece dining set.

Retail Options

Almost every retailer from Sears to Target has a selection of cheap dining table and chairs, and while the store outlets may be limited on selection, these same retail outlets have a much broader selection on their websites with various shipping options.  The prices are comparable to some of the online offers, but in general, most retail outlets also offer the best deals online, in most cases.

Straight From the Source

Another great option, and one that is commonly overlooked, is to go straight to the manufacturers’ websites, as many will have a much wider selection as well as better pricing, and these websites can even help locate retail outlets in particular areas that carry their products.  These are also some of the best outlets from which to find specialty items like beds for kids and folding table and chairs for kids featuring a range of artwork from cartoon characters to the latest action hero.

Two Types of Bunk Beds

March 15th, 2011

Most of us are familiar with the standard twin over twin bunk bed model. You might have even ruled out purchasing one because these confinements did not fit your needs. However, you shouldn’t dismiss the possibility of buying a bunk bed for your bedroom, because there are two different options on the market that offer more flexibility than the standard bunk bed.

Have you ever wished a bunk bed came in two sizes? There actually is such a thing, and it’s called a twin over full bunk bed. The top bunk is twin sized like a typical bunk bed, while the bottom bunk is larger.  These models are a good option if your bedroom frequently doubles as a guest room or it is shared between two children of different ages. While in some cases the difference in sizes might create an argument, these bunk beds can be an ideal solution in some situations. They are also available with extras such as storage built in under the stairs, as well as integrated desk space.

Another option that is space efficient, practical and attractive is a bunk bed that features a futon on the bottom. This model offers the versatility that comes with a futon, as well as the additional sleeping space provided by a bunk. Bunk beds with a futon allow you to create a seating area during the day, and then fold the bed out at night as needed. If the room is occupied by a single person, the futon can remain in sofa position until a guest comes to stay. You can change up your futon depending on your room decor. It’s as easy as replacing a slip cover.

Both types of bunk beds are available in either wood or metal frames, depending on your tastes and your budget. Evaluate your lifestyle, and choose the right model for you.

Houston Plumber Tutorial on Preventing Drain Backflow

March 14th, 2011

Drain pipes work due to gravity; water flows to the lowest point in a plumbing system, which is why drains are installed on the floor. A drain system is made up of three main parts: the drain pipe, the trap, and the vent pipe. When a floor drain drains slowly, it is likely caused by insufficient venting or a blocked pipe. We would simply concentrate on removing blackage in the drain pipe first, since this is the more common reason.

Houston plumber tutorials tackle DIY projects and basic troubleshooting procedures for indoor plumbing systems. In this particular Houston plumber tutorial, we deal with the procedure for resolving backflow for a floor drain.

Remove the drain cover with the help of screwdriver. The larger floor drains can be lifted right off but smaller ones usually have retaining screws in the corners. Once the drain has been opened, insert a plumber’s snake in the drain. A word of advice to the uninitiated: always wear gloves when working with a plumber’s snake. It is bound to become dirty and slippery with stuff that you wouldn’t want to touch with bare hands.

Feed the plumber’s snake through and keep it spinning as it unrolls from the reel. Be sensitive for any obstructions or clogs. Whenever you feel one, pull the snake in and out in a rapid manner to break it up. Once the blockage has been cleared, run some water to flush all debris away.

Afterwards, place a mesh screen either below or above the drain cover to catch any solid materials and preventing from causing future obstructions. You can help keep drain pipes working in optimum condition by refraining from pouring any grease or solids down the drain pipe.

Some commercial chemicals claim that they can liquidate blockages and obstructions when poured down the pipe.  While these claims may in fact be true, frequent use of these products can cause corrosive damage to your pipes over time.

Wet And Dry Carpet Cleaning Machines

March 14th, 2011

Carpet cleaning machines are tools used to remove all sorts of dirt and debris from carpets. They provide the deeper cleaning that vacuums do not. While the regular vacuum cleaners are good for cleaning up particles that haven’t yet gotten in between the carpet fibers or got stuck in between, home carpet cleaning machines restore the carpet’s quality and give a deep-clean feel.

There are two basic types of carpet cleaning machines. Wet carpet cleaning machines, such as steam carpet cleaners, mostly used for households, which spray water on the dirty surface and then suck it back up. Most of the time, solutions and chemicals are also used in this procedure. Done properly, this process is highly effective and the carpet is left cleaner. When using these machines, the operator must avoid excessively wetting the carpet, as this can damage its color and condition. But overall, this is considered as the best carpet cleaner for regular households.

Dry cleaning machines, on the other hand, are a completely different story altogether. Dry chemicals are applied to the carpet surface and allowed to settle and absorb the dirt, after which they are vacuumed up by the machine. While this is less messy because water and other liquid solutions are not necessary, they may be less effective at fixing heavy accumulation of dirt or stains that have settled for a long period of time.

Many stores allow you to rent the equipment instead of buying them. This can also be a good option for some. It also can be a great way to “test-drive” different types of home carpet cleaning machines. You can rent different models and then compare which one has the best performance and delivers the best results for you. Then you can decide which one you will eventually buy for your use.

You can also know offers provided the company in the past and whether the consumers actually get their money’s worth from that company in terms of product and services.

The comments on these review sites are facts put forth objectively by real users. Some may even actually bother to give you accurate breakdown of each unit. This would be quite unlike the glossy sales pitch that you find on the company’s websites which may be all fluff and no material at times. Only after thoroughly reading through these reviews you should venture on to your 2nd step.

Just a cursory glance through the results of the Google search under the term “Utah home theater” can be quite confusing and exhilarating at the same time. To know that there are so many product and service providers could be exhilarating, but having to choose the right one from under the heap could seem quite daunting.  A good idea would be to shortlist the ones you like most and then research in detail about them.

From the companies you shortlist, check for certain factors and if the answer for most of them is positive, that is the right one for you. Read through the terms and conditions for the guarantee period, warranty period, quality checks, replacement policies, refund polices and the type of audio, video and electrical equipment being used and covered under the guarantee / warranty.

When you are spending a good fortune on buying a home theater, you may as well get what its worth for.

Save Space in Your Small Bathroom

February 23rd, 2011

If you have a small bathroom, that is no reason to despair. While a spacious bathroom might make getting ready in the morning go a little smoother and feel more pleasant, you must learn to make the most of the space that you do have. The way you lay it out, the fixtures you select and the types of finishes you choose can make a huge different in how you perceive the space.

Light finishes tend to make a space look larger. Paint the walls white, light beige or gray. Choose bathroom tile that is a similar color. You are off to a good start in making your bathroom look larger. Next, try to conserve space by choosing more efficient versions of plumbing fixtures. Try a pedestal sink instead of a vanity. You will gain extra floor area, although you must figure out another way to store your belongings. In this case, wall shelves work well. Also, you should consider installing a wall hung toilet instead of the traditional floor mounted variety.

Bathtubs tend to take up the most space in a bathroom. That’s why you should think seriously about installing a walk in shower unit instead. Install your shower at the edge of the room and use frameless corner shower doors. Since these doors lack frames, they don’t restrict your view through the bathroom and into the shower. The effect is much more clean and modern. If your bathroom is especially small, then consider using a bi fold shower door. When these doors swing out, they take up half the space that a normal shower door would. That leaves more open floor area for you to move around or place other fixtures.

Using the right plumbing fixtures can make all the difference between a crowded bathroom and a space-efficient layout.

The Effect Swimming Pool Temperature Has On Pool Chemistry

February 18th, 2011

It’s impossible to define an ideal swimming pool temperature as all swimmers will have their own individual preferences, so it’s best to think in terms of a range of temperatures. Generally, most people will feel comfortable in water that is between 75° and 85° F.

The temperature of the pool water can have a direct effect on the chemistry of the pool. When the temperature of cool water rises (whether through artificial means or a seasonal change) dissolved solids will build up. Some of these are the types of contaminants chlorine normally reacts with. At higher temperatures, the sanitizing agent will burn off more quickly as well. Algae have a tendency to grow faster in warmer water, so you need to be diligent with your pool vacuum cleaner in order to keep the pool free of algal spores.

So in warmer water temperatures, be prepared to use more chlorine and other necessary pool chemicals. Pool experts recommend that you give your pool a weekly shock treatment when the waters are warmer. If your pool has a high bather load, consider shocking your pool even more often. Higher water temperatures also mean higher evaporation rates, so be aware of your pool levels. Be quick to fill up your pool in order to keep the water in the skimmers.

You should test your water chemistry frequently during the warmer months, or when the pool is being heated. In particular, you should be aware of the total alkalinity levels. You’ll want the levels to be lower in warmer weather than they are in cooler temperatures. To lower alkalinity, a popular swimming pool chemical to use is muriatic acid. Whether you heat your pool or not, you’ll need to adjust your pool maintenance routing throughout the year, particularly in places that experience hot summers.

Selecting Daybed Bedding For Your Daughter

February 18th, 2011

The focal point of a bedroom is always the bed that is why it is called a bedroom not just a room. If you are planning to buy a new bed then before buying you should consider about the size and the color theme of the room. You may find the room spacious enough but it may not be for your daughter. In this room there must be enough place left for your daughter to play with her dolls and her friends. The purpose of the room is not just to sleep in it but may also be used for studying, school projects and sleepover place for your daughter’s best friend. If space constraints exist and you want some seating space in the room then daybed is definitely the only choice. Daybed can be used as seating in the day and as bed in the night. Having the feature of folding up, your daughter will get enough space for playing etc. The trundle feature will benefit you in case you require additional sleeping place for your daughter’s friends when they visit for a sleep over.

Select daybed bedding for girls according to the favorite colors of your daughter. A room full of her favorite colors means a lot to a girl and it will render warmth and happiness in your child. Correct choice of bedding with perfectly themed bed sheets is very important and the whole look of the room depends on it. Varieties of themes are available in the market for you to choose in. For a girl usually her favorite cartoon character theme goes very well or you can give her the feeling of princess through a princess theme. There could be hundred of themes but only your daughter can make the perfect theme choice.

In this age of information technology, online buying comes out to be very handy. You can browse thousands of themes without leaving the comforts of home. The whole room decoration can be viewed online and help in planning the design of the room without buying anything.  If you feel comfortable with online buying then get your bedding delivered right at your doorstep.

Do it Yourself Bathroom Remodeling

February 15th, 2011

If you are the type of person that enjoys doing your own thing when it comes to repairs to your home; do you think you’d be able to remodel your bathroom? Many husbands and other men fancy themselves as unstudied carpenters and believe a hammer in their hands is the same as a stethoscope in a doctor’s mitt.

So for those would-be handymen out there itching to get started remodeling the bathroom. First you going to have to decide what needs to be done. There are a slew of walk-in shower designs available on the Internet or at your nearest home center.

Perhaps you want to make the bathroom smaller; since the kids have moved away, there’s no need for a large one. Small bathroom remodeling is a popular thing to do these days. If your house is old, you may have to do some major work under the house to ensure your 21st bathroom jives with the structure of the house. For example, old houses were usually built on concrete blocks, which were designed to give the building ventilation. The bathroom, therefore often had a wooden floor covered with linoleum. Houses in the 21st century, however, are built of slabs of reinforced concrete which are able to withstand strong earthquakes or other natural disasters. Walk-in shower designs are, for the most part, designed for houses that sit flat on a slab. Indeed small bathroom remodeling is also based on a house being flat on a slab.

This is not to say that, you have to drop your house a few feet to get it flush with the ground, it simply means you may have to pour concrete under your bathroom floor, strip the floor boards and lay tiles. Doing this will enable you to install one of those walk-in shower designs you’ve been looking at. Your small bathroom remodeling will be so much easier with concrete supporting your bathroom floor.

Why A Bathroom Shower Combo is Good For the Elderly

February 15th, 2011

Old people need all the help they can get. Despite being energetic or powerful when they were younger, age turns everyone, including these strong or energetic people, into toned down human beings. Bathing, which used to be a simple affair, is an intricate process that must be supervised lest an untimely accident occur.

A bathroom shower combo is good for elderly people because the set-up is virtually 100% accident free. This article would discuss the benefits of having a bathroom shower combo and why it is perfect for elderly people than, say, just a normal bath tub or mere shower enclosures.

A bathroom shower combo, especially a walk in combo, is perfect for the elderly because they can easily enter into the shower area with ease. Unlike normal combos wherein you need to get over a certain height either to get in or out of the bath tub, a walk in shower combo will enable an elderly person to bathe without supervision.

Even the act of bathing itself is easier for our old loved ones because of the shower seats available in most walk in shower combos. Shower enclosures are not advisable for the elderly because they might slip and break a hip while using it. Even if the set up includes handle bars, the legs of an old person may not be as strong as it was and give way at any moment. It would be better to have such bath in a bathroom shower combo.

For such a reasonable price, our elderly loved ones deserve this luxury because it will bring comfort and ease into their bathing experience. We must remember that our elderly loved ones should feel our love because it is our only way of thanking them for what they have done for us when we were younger. Order the materials and set up a bathroom shower combo for your elderly loved one today.

Setting Up Your Home Office

December 9th, 2010

If you are serious about building blogs then you need space at home to work on your blogs. You need a home office with desks, computers and printers.

All this sounds expensive, and if you buy new desks it is. However you can buy better furniture, from a used office furniture store for less. These stores buy office furniture for a tenth of its value from companies that are closing down. They then sell it off at a quarter of its value.

You can buy a real bargain at these stores. Commercial desks are bigger and stronger than any flat-pack desk you can buy. Look for a corner desk if you can, it enables you to use your office space more efficiently. You will need two or three desks and will find matching desks at any large used office furnitures store.

Commercial quality desks are much deeper than those intended for home use and you really need that extra six inches of depth if this is to be where you are working eight to twelve hours a day.

Flat pack home desks are usually flimsy things held together with screws and cams. Used office desks have welded steel frames and are much stronger, but they are unwieldy, so moving them can be awkward.

Building Links to Your Blog

December 8th, 2010

Having a blog is only the first part of trying to earn money via the Internet. You have to make regular and frequent posts to it and you have to get links to it. Links are the currency of the Internet and without links in your blog will soon die.

You can link to any website from any other, so use what you have. If you have other websites link them to your new blog site. Post comments on others’ blogs and put your new blog address in your email signature file and any forum profile you might have.

Another way is by joinging sites that allow you to make short posts that you can link back to your own website. Sites you might look at include InfoPirate and Best Reviewer.

Info Pirate lets you post a 3 sentence link to any article or web page, Submissions are checked manually, so spun content is likely to be refused.

Best Reviewer works differently. You make a Top 3, Top 5 Top 10, etc list. Each item in your Top List gets a DoFollow link. If you have three related blog posts, you can use Best Reviewer to deep link to all three. Check out this review of Best Reviewer.

June Gardening Jobs

December 7th, 2010

I love June in the garden. When I was teaching I never saw June because I was nmarking exam papers 14 hours a day.

June in Cork is warm, but not too hot. long sleeve shirt weather rather than sunscreen weather.

I always have a long list of June garden jobs.

My roses are always at their best in June, though I spray against black spot, a fungal disease, using liquid copper fungicide. I never have greenfly troubles because I have a garden designed for wildlife and consequently the hoverflies and blue tits take care of the green fly and black fly.

The other big job is the potatoes. New potatoes are ready this month, I usually dig them up just before cooking them because they have a better flavour that way. Other June vegetable garden jobs include sowing more peas in the vegetable plot and sowing brassicas to transplant in August.

I sow leek seeds in May, so I need to keep those fed and watered.

I love fresh from the garden spinach and it is so easy to grow.

Then there is the hoeing and the grass cutting of course. I usually hoe the whole garden every 3 or 4 days while every weed is growing so quickly in the warm and damp weather.

Make Money Running WordPress Classes

December 6th, 2010

Many people are put off using WordPress and building a website because they have no experience using it. You can provide an introduction to WordPress by running evening or weekend WordPress courses.

Setting up and configuring WordPress can be off-puting the first time.

You can hire a room for $80 an evening, run a course for 20 people who each pay $20 for your two hour course. That gives you a profit of at least $320 for a few hours of work.

You will also gain followers who are more likely to follow your advice and buy through your affiliate links because they know you and like you.

All it takes is to set up a website beforehand with all the (referral) links to hosting providers, to hire a room with a wireless Internet connection and to run off a few phoptocopies. You are paid in cash, your only outlay is for the room and for newspaper davertising to promote your course.

Once you have run one course, word will spread and you can make a living by running WP courses three evenings a week.

The best way of teaching is to allow every member in the class to build their own WordPress website during the time he or she is in your class. Guarantee that each member will build a website and you will have a queue coming out of the door.

Team Building in a Dragon Boat

December 4th, 2010

Dragon boats are 40 foot long open canoes that seat 20 paddlers in pairs facing forwards. The boat is steered by a qualified helm, who stands on the back with a steering oar. In races a drummer sits at the front of the boat to help the helm control the paddling rate.

If your company is interested in team building this is the best activity for doing that you will ever find. Dragon boat racing is far from elitist. Anyone can paddle. A crew made up of ten blind paddlers and ten sighted paddlers paddled the 20 miles across the English Channel between England and France.

Disbaled paddlers can be accomodated within a dragon boat and there is no age limit on crew members. Crews often range in age from children of ten years of age up to mwn and women of sixty.

There is almost certainly a dragon boat club near where you are based and charity events especially designed for corporate crews to compete in.

Any dragon boat race is competitive, but your crew is a single unit, competing with other crews. Charity crews usually train for  a few months before a race, further building camaraderie among your employees. Dragon boat training takes place in all weathers.

Paddlers do not need to be able to swim, though they will get wet, after all a fully loaded dragonboat sits low in the water, with the gunwhales only four inches above the water, and it moves at 10-15 mph.

No special clothing is necessary. The barriers to dragon boat paddling are set very low to encourage its development as a mass participation sport.

How to Make Your Website Make Money

December 3rd, 2010

There are two ways to make your website make money, ads or make it a subscription site. Most people use ads because most web users expect sites to be free.

There are different kinds of ads you can put on your website. The Google (TM) Adsense (TM) pay per click ad program is the most popular. Google (TM) serves ads to your web pages that complement the content you have put on. Readers find extra material and might click on ads that interest them.

If your website is a work from home blog, then you need to post to it every day to attract search engine spiders, who do not click, and people, who might just click.

You can make money with your own website, but it takes time and a lot of hard work. Not only do you have to post new and unique articles to it most days, but you must also spend many hours building links back to it from othere blogs and forums where you are a member.

No links = No money.

No links means search engines like Google (TM) will put your website on page 100 of its search results.

Where do you put links? There are many sites you can put short articles on. Start by checking out this review of Post Your Own.

Make Millions Online-3 Year Plan

December 2nd, 2010

Make millions online – A 3 year plan with step by step instructions and all for free. Forget the gurus you can do it all on your own. All it takes is a modicum of common sense and planning.

If you want to make millions in the off-line world, you do it by finding a need for a killer product, make and market that product and move onto the next gap in the market before the imitators catch up with you. You employ people to do the donkey work and a sales team to sell your idea. You need a factory, or at least a supply chain solution and everything quickly becomes very complex and expensive.

In the online world you still need to approach making money as a business. The entry costs are lower, but to expand you need to employ other people to do the donkey work of making your product. You then sell the company product, or hire it out and make money. Selling your product is automatic; you have no need for salespeople.

If you have a bit of capital you can run the Make Millions Online Plan first six months and second six months together. In the first year you learn the business of writing articles and earning money by submitting them to the right websites.

You cannot completely miss out learning the business, but then in the second year you can start to outsource the work. Outsource the article writing, outsource the back-linking, even outsource managing your article writers by the time you are in your third year of the making millions online zero cost plan.

You can only make millions online by outsourcing the work. No one person can produce enough articles, even if they worked 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The only way is by hiring ghostwriters.

A Garden Office

November 29th, 2010

I love my garden and do not have enough time to spend in it because I am writing most of the day. I also suffer from seasonal affective disorder in the winter, so I need more natural light. My house is noisy and I need silence to write. I have found the perfect answer, a garden office in my garden.

I can buy a plain, ordinary garden shed, a large one for $400, including lots of windows. I can insulate it myself very easily using insulation boards, the kind they use for cavity insulation in new houses. I can draught proof windows and doors and fit sheets of Perspex over the windows as DIY double-glazing.

All I need then is electricity and a kettle and my garden home office is perfect. For $500 I have an extra space I can use 365 days a year. Yes I will need an electrical convector heater, but with a thermostat and all the insulation, the running costs should be kept right down.

I will be right in the middle of the garden, ready to take inspiration from birdsong, wind and rain. Nobody could have a better place to write articles in unless they have a conservatory or quiet bedroom or quiet living room… This will suit me down to the ground, though.

If money was no object I would install a toilet, even a shower, but it is better to stay realistic and stick with a kettle.

How To Design Your Own WordPress Themes

November 22nd, 2010

The latest version of WordPress comes with a default theme called TwentyTen. This is an infinite improvement on the previous default themes and it is usable ‘out of the box’. It is easily customized too, with alternative header images supplied or you can very easily supply your own header image.

I have spent hours searching for suitable themes for particular websites and in the end I decided to buy a $49 program that allows me to design all my own WordPress themes in half an hour or so, though I do spend more time tweaking them later.

The program is called Artisteer. At first the interface seems complicated. It consists of a series of drop down menus that enable you to control every aspect of WP theme design, from font to page width and from backround color to header design. You can choose whether you want links in bold or italic as well as the hover color, default and active color of any link.

I have not found any aspect of WordPress theme design that I cannot change. There are a lot of drop downs because everything is accessible in two clicks from the main menu bar.

One thing I like is that I can take away all the links to WordPress and theme designers by designing my own WP theme.

Every WordPress theme I ever downloaded had parts I liked but other parts I disliked. If I want to change anything in themes I design myself I just go back to the saved file, tweak it in terms of font size, color or whatever, I just save it with a different name and upload the new zip file through the WordPress – Appearance – Themes – Install New Theme page.

Let your son or daughter design a new theme for your blog, this WordPress theme design software is so simple, a 9 yera old could use it.

How Easy Is It To Install WordPress?

November 20th, 2010

The exact procedure to install WordPress varies from host to host, but 99% of web hosts have a single click installation process.

If you cannot find WordPress on the list of scripts available to you to install then you just need to contact your host’s support team and they will enable it for you within the hour.

Sometimes you need to choose a version, just choose the latest (stable) version. Avoid installing any beta WordPress versions.

The latest version comes with a much more impressive theme than the old default ones. The default TwentyTen theme is good enough for a standard blog. You cab swap the image in Settings – Header, or you can even install your own image very easily.

Once you have WordPress installed you need to install and activate a few Plug-Ins. I always install All in One SEO Pack and activate Akismet.

Change a few settings and you are done. Initially just change date and time settings. Make a few Posts in a few different Categories, set up a few Pages and then consider changing themes…Appearance – Theme – Install New – Search.

You need to have Categories, Posts and Pages set up before you start spending time on looking for a new theme. Install a few possible themes then you can switch between them more easily.

What is WordPress?

September 19th, 2010

WordPress is a free website editor. Traditionally it has been used for blogs, but you can use WordPress to make any website.

There are thousands of free WordPress Themes. You can change the colours, layout and features of your WordPress website just by changing the theme.

There are thousands of free WordPress Plugins, each designed to add a particular function to your WordPress site. Some increase the “Search Engine Friendliness” of your website, others allow you to add adverts, easily. Be cautious about installing too many plugins, because each one slows down your site marginally, and if you install ten or so, the slow down becomes noticeable.

There are many companies that will design a unique WordPress Theme for you, or you can design your own using a program like Artisteer.

WordPress is VERY easy to use. Once you have set up a few websites with it, you can set up a ten page site in one day, which would otherwisw take you a week or longer using Dreamweaver. This is the beauty of WordPress, its simplicity and ease of use.
