Standards For Outdoor Ceiling Fans

Just like most products on the market, ceiling fans come in different varieties to cater for different needs. As a buyer you may be overwhelmed by the number of ceiling fans to choose from, not knowing what to look out for. There are a number of things you may look out for, so that you can confidently identify a quality product.

Design and materials: Most indoor fans are made from ply-wood blades, but this is very unsuitable for an outdoor fan. An outdoor fan should be made from materials that can withstand the elements, such as rain, snow and strong winds. Ply-wood tends to warp and lose its strength due to dampness.

Outdoor fans are made from strong materials such as ABS plastic, which is not only water resistant but also can withstand strong winds. Hampton bay ceiling fans are a great option.

Weight: The weight of the fan may give an idea of what kind of materials it is made of. Outdoor ceiling fans are made of stronger materials which are usually much heavier than materials that make indoor ceiling fans.

Motor type: You definitely want a fan that does not make annoying noises especially for a fan mounted in the study room. The quality of the fan’s motor will determine this. The best quality type is the 18 pole-stack type motors. These types of motors are known for their efficiency, durability and quietness. However, they can be quite expensive; their best alternative is the 16 pole spinner motor also known as ‘direct drive’ motor. This motor is more affordable quite and efficient.

Warranty:  A warranty will not only reflect the faith the dealer has in the product but also the give a clue to the kind of dealer you are buying from. Warranties do not always give an accurate picture of the quality of the product, but they come in handy when the fan breaks down within a short time. You should compare warranties to enable you to get an overall picture of what you are buying.
